Asian Heritage Month - Between 1880 and 1885, the Canadian Pacific Railway was completed using the labour of around 15,000 Chinese workers. They faced discrimination by being underpaid and facing the most dangerous tasks, which resulted in around 2,200 deaths. Chinese workers created the foundation of the Chinese population in Canada today!

 

Spine Poetry Contest - Thank you to everyone who participated in our 3rd Annual Spine Poetry Contest. We had a record 113 total poems submitted to the contest! Our winners and runners-up have been selected and with their teacher's permission can now come to the Library to get their prizes:

1st Place: Jewel in 6-3

2nd Place: Gaia in 7-2

3rd Place: Jaxon in 9-6

 

And our Runner-Ups are:

Lilah in 6-8

Emmy in 9-6

Ms. Labelle in 6-2

 

Gauss Math Competition - Students in grade 7 and 8 who signed up to participate in the Gauss Math competition are asked to come to the library for a brief meeting with Mr. Burke today at lunch time.  This is only for students who let their Math Teacher know they wish to compete.  No new sign-ups are possible. 

 

Fairview Chess Championship -Any students wishing to compete in the Fairview Chess Championship should speak to Mr. Burke A.S.A.P in room 223. 

 

Dungeons and Dragons – D&D Club will meet in our regular rooms after school today.  If you are unable to attend, please let Mr.  Burke know as Mr. Kloppenburg will not be available today.

 

Popcorn Sale - The learning center will have a popcorn sale on Friday May 15th at lunch. 1$ per bag, 3 bags max.  Freshly made the morning of!
