Red Dress Day – Today is Red Dress Day. This is a day where we honour and remember the many Murdered Missing Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirited people. By spreading awareness continually through our communities, we hope to bring some of these women home or provide some closure to the families who have lost loved ones. Please take some time today during our activities to think about our stolen sisters and a big thank you to all those who wore red in support of today.
Chess Tournament - Congratulations to both teams who competed in the grade 7-9 Nova Scotia Schools Provincial Chess Tournament this weekend. Fairview's Team “A” finished Tied for 3rd but missed out on medals due to an unfortunate tiebreaker. Our Team “B” finished in a 4-way tie for 9th place out of 19 teams. Well done everyone!
Girls’ Flag Football – Our team competed in the regional tournament yesterday and had very strong showing finishing 5th out of 12 teams. The girls battled nerves in their first game losing a close game to Halifax Central. The girls were confident in their second game cruising to a 58-6 victory over Sir Robert Borden. That result got them 2nd in the division and a quarter final match up vs Gorsebrook. The girls were able to keep in close in the first half only trailing 12-6 but would fall behind to the eventual champs in the second half closing out the tournament with 30-12 defeat. The offence was led by Myra McDonald who had a strong performance all day long finding the end-zone in every game. The defence was led by strong tackling and ball pursuit by Leah Pickles and multiple interceptions by Ruby Burgess.
Mr. Redden and Ms. Wry would like to thank all the girls for their hard work this year and especially like to thank the grade 9’s Ciana, Carmen and Myra for their leadership and hard work.
